Do you live in Howe Sound / Átl’ḵa7tsem or have you visited this area before? Do you care about the Sound’s ocean or freshwater and want to inform regional decision-making and education? If so, we would like to hear from you!

You are invited to participate in a survey about how people connect with and value Howe Sound/ Átl’ka7tsem’s ocean and freshwater. The survey is a part of a study led by the University of British Columbia, the Squamish Nation, and the Howe Sound/ Átl’ka7tsem Marine Reference Guide. The survey takes approximately 20-40 minutes to complete and is best done on a computer (joining through Google Chrome or Firefox, as some elements are incompatible with Safari).

You can access the survey here: https://new.maptionnaire.com/q/32uwp76gas9v

The survey’s objectives are to understand:

  1. Why is the Sound’s ocean and freshwater important to you?
  2. What places are important for supporting ecological, economic, social, and cultural values?
  3. What is your perception of regional stewardship, management, and pressures to ocean health and community access to the water?

The survey will be open until May 31st 2021 and there will be a prize draw up to $50 for participants who complete the full survey. Upon your consent, the information you share will inform regional marine spatial planning, decision-making, and community education as we will connect it with the Marine Reference Guide’s online interactive map (available at www.howesoundguide.ca/map). If you have any questions about the survey or research study, please contact Fiona Beaty at beaty@zoology.ubc.ca. Otherwise, please feel free to complete the survey and share the survey with others!
